About Me

My name is Sheila McAtee. I was born in Denver, and moved to Lakewood when I was about 7, and have lived here ever since. I got my first horse when I was 12 years old. His name is Bud a Quarab, and he is now 11 years old. I got my second horse when I graduated from High school. He is a Polish arab, now 7 years old.

I graduated from Lakewood High school in 2001 (I bet you can guess how old I am now :P ). I then went to CSU for two years. After those two years, I decided to move back to Lakewood and go to the Colorado School of Trades to learn horseshoeing. I had been trimming my own horses, and my friends horses for quite a few years, and my passion for horse hoof care continued to grow, even while attending CSU. I learned how to trim from many books and videos, and most importantly, from several different people. I went to my first trimming clinic, taught by Lisa Simons, who is a well known farrier in the Castle Rock area. (She is now attending Vet School in another state, and will be back in a couple of years). I also got help from a couple of other farriers in my quest to learn hoof care. While I was attending CSU, I got lessons from the caretaker at my stables, who had recently gone through a farrier program. After I moved back to Lakewood in the summer of '03, I went to the School of Trades, and learned how to shoe horses! I think being a farrier is a very exciting trade, and I look forward to meeting new clients every day!

I'm not only looking to shoe horses, but I'd also like to expand my knowledge, get to know people, their horses, and be a well known farrier in this area! I plan to continue school part time in the area, and get my majors in French and Biology.
